An Interview with Ehyang – The Fine Line Tattoo Artist from South Korea – TattoosBoyGirl

Fine line tattoos are getting popularity these days. Recently, we got in touch with Ehyang, who does mostly fine line tattooing. So, we did a short interview with her, please look at her answers. I am also sharing some of her tattoos and the detailing in them is extraordinary.

1. What inspired you to become a tattoo artist and when did you started it as a career?

Before I became a tattooist, I worked for the company as a designer, but I decided to do what I wanted to do before it was too late. So I started getting a tattoo at 27. It’s been 3 years since I became a tattooist.

2. How many tattoos do you have on your body and what’s your favourite one?

I have about 12 but most of them are mini-tattoos. The brushstroke butterfly that I got from my tattoo teacher, Sol, is my favorite tattoo. The details are the best.

3. Which is your favourite client tattoo, what was the story behind it and how much time it took?

I usually draw animals such as foxes, phoenixes, and dragons, and collaboration with traditional Korean norigae is fun. I used to like oriental, but I didn’t draw it because I thought it didn’t fit my tattoo style. But I think the combination of animals and Norigae is better than I thought. The time it takes depends on the size and condition of your skin, but it usually takes about 3 hours.

4. What do you do in your free time when not tattooing people?

I usually take a good rest by devising designs or exercising. When I do tattoo, I have to stay in one position for a long time, so exercising is essential.

5. Why do you think people get a tattoo, even though it’s a painful process?

It’s cool. I think it’s an attractive act of art that can put your own symbolic meaning into the tattoo.

6. Who is your favourite tattoo artist?

There are so many artists who are good at it, but I like my teacher, soltattoo, the most. If you look at his works, you’ll understand it right away.

7. What are different styles of tattoos do you make?

The base of my work style is a thin fine line, but I use those lines and an ornament to create animals such as dragons, foxes, phoenics, and I design tattoos like beautiful ornaments. 

8. Where do you see the future of Tattoos?

I heard that Korean style color tattoos weren’t common before. But now, Korean style tattoos have become popular all over the world.

Won’t there be a time when fine fine lines become popular in the future? I hope that fine lines become more popular because I’m working on fine line style. 🙂

9. Where do you see yourself in next 5 years?

I want to make my own style firm. The individuality of each personality is important. I think each person’s personality is the tattoo genre itself. 

Many artists, including me, are putting a lot of time and effort into building their own identity by utilizing their individual personality. I think such efforts increase the value of work. So I think it’s important to make a design that has own personality. I want to be that kind of person.

10. If you get a choice, which celebrity would you like to Tattoo and any specific design?

Do you know Korean singer-songwriter Yerin Baek? Her voice is fantastic, and she has a lot of wonderful, personable tattoos, and it would be a great honor if my tattoos were engraved on her body.
